Practice Summary
Eddie's practice focuses primarily on patent infringement and invalidity opinions; due diligence review; freedom-to-operate analysis; portfolio management; and patent prosecution in the biotechnology arena, particularly in the areas of molecular biology, genomics, gene therapy, pharmaceuticals, and microbiology. Eddie represents a wide range of clients ranging from universities and biotechnology start-up companies to larger established companies.
Eddie received his J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law in 2003, where he was editor-in-chief of the Syracuse Journal of International Law & Commerce and associate editor of the Syracuse Law & Technology Journal. He received first place in the ASCAP Nathan Burkan Memorial Copyright Writing Competition for his article "From Conflict to Confluence: Protection of Databases Containing Genetic Information" (30 SYR. J. I'TL LAW & COMM. 121 (2003)). While in law school, Eddie was a senior research associate for the Syracuse University Technology Transfer Research Center (now the Technology Commercialization Research Center), an interdisciplinary center for the study of commercial development of new technologies, and he worked at the Stanford University Office of Technology Licensing Office following his first year in law school.
Eddie received his M.S. in genetics from Stanford University in 2000. While there, his research focused on Epstein-Barr Virus-based episomal gene therapy vectors, as well as other nonviral-based gene therapy methods. Eddie coauthored several articles on gene therapy and has been published in journals such as Molecular Therapy and Nucleic Acids Research. He received his B.S. in microbiology, with an emphasis in genetic engineering, and his B.A. in history of art and architecture from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1997.
Eddie is a member of the San Francisco Intellectual Property Law Association, and is admitted to practice in California and the District of Columbia and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
